Which GTA Toronto Roads & Areas Are Most Accident-Prone

Every year, more than 36,000 car accidents take place in Ontario. This shows the real danger of driving on the roads and cannot be ignored. Of course, some roads and traffic intersections are more dangerous than others. A poll of drivers conducted by CAA in 2018, revealed that the most dangerous spot in Ontario is Highway 401 between Windsor and London. It was nicknamed “Carnage Alley” due to the frequent collisions that often resulted in injury or death (Greg Monforton and Partners, 2019). Another reason was that most accidents were rear-ended collisions, involving more than one vehicle.

Around 15 cities in Canada have been identified as having the maximum number of accidents, out of which 13 are located in Ontario, most of them in GTA. At the top of the list are North York, Scarborough and Brampton with an average collision frequency of 7.1%. (source: insurancehotline.com/newswire.ca/Allstate Insurance Company of Canada)

Car accidents and fatalities in Toronto have increased significantly over the years. Although the number of serious injuries declined, findings from 2018 indicate that motor vehicle fatalities went up from 1,856 to 1,922 (3.6%) compared to the previous year. Serious injuries, however, declined from 10,107 to 9,494 (6.1%) in the same period (Toronto Police Department and Toronto Transportation Services).

It has also been observed that preventable road deaths are on the rise. While speed remains the number 1 killer, increasing 13% from 2019, distracted driving deaths have seen a nearly 300% increase over the same period (Ontario Provincial Police). The number of fatal crashes is up by 10.5% from 2019.

The findings also indicate that traffic intersections are the most dangerous spots for car accidents. Let us look at the important traffic intersections in the GTA.

Car accidents have been very high in Toronto according to a report from the Toronto Police Department and Toronto Transportation Services. Findings indicate that car accidents and fatalities have increased significantly over the years. Prompt medical advice and treatment is the key to recovery in a car crash. Although the initial treatment is usually given to reduce pain and suffering of the victim, it does not actually help in treating the damaged soft tissues or the actual problem. Hence urgent medical attention is of prime importance.

Injuries caused due to a car crash can have a different impact on each body part. Therefore, the prescribed therapy and the time taken for recovery varies depending on the severity of the injury and the affected part of the body. Immediate medical attention and a thorough diagnosis are absolutely critical to ensure that you regain mobility and live a pain-free life. A thorough assessment by a health professional will provide you all the information about injuries that you may not even be aware of. This followed by a personalized treatment by a physiotherapist can help you avoid long-term health related consequences and lead to a speedy recovery.
