How Can You Get Rid of Elbow Pain?

When physiotherapy is undertaken early on, elbow discomfort and damage respond well to treatment. A correct diagnosis is essential for a quick recovery.

Even for skilled upper limb health practitioners, determining the source of your elbow pain might be difficult. Elbow pain can come from a variety of places. Local structures, referenced structures, and other systemic factors are examples.

A local muscle, tendon, or joint injury is the most prevalent cause of local elbow pain. Your neck could also be referring to elbow ache. Irritation or compromise of your C5/6 nerve might induce lateral elbow pain (e.g. tennis elbow). A neck problem, for example, can refer to pain in the lateral portion of your elbow. Your elbow pain will not be relieved by treatment directed at the elbow right now. To be successful, you’ll need neck treatment focused on your cervical radiculopathy. As a result, an accurate diagnosis from a health professional experienced in thoroughly analysing elbow pain is strongly advised. Please visit your trusted health practitioner for more precise information on your elbow ache.

What are the different types of elbow disorders?

Elbow diseases can be classified into at least seven main categories. Continue reading to learn more about them:

  • Medial epicondylitis

Golfer’s elbow and little leaguer’s elbow are typical names for medial epicondylitis, which affects the inside tendons of the elbow. Baseball’s repetitive throwing motion and a golf club’s downward swing are two common causes.

  • Lateral epicondylitis

Tennis elbow is another name for lateral elbow tendinopathy. The tendons on the outside of the elbow are affected. This condition can be caused by playing racquet sports or working in certain occupations that need the similar motion.

  • Olecranon bursitis

Student’s elbow, miner’s elbow, and draftsman’s elbow are all common names for olecranon bursitis. Bursitis affects bursae, which are tiny fluid-filled sacs that protect joints. The bursae that protect the pointed bone of the elbow are affected by olecranon bursitis.

  • Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disorder that affects the cartilage in the joints, which is a form of connective tissue. This tissue wears down and becomes destroyed as a result of OA. An elbow injury or wear and tear on the joints can cause elbow OA.

  • Dislocation or fracture of the elbow

A dislocation or fracture of the elbow can result from an injury to the elbow, such as a fall on an outstretched arm or elbow. When a bone slides out of its normal position, it is called dislocation. When a bone cracks or breaks, it is called a fracture.

  • Ligament strains and sprains

Any of the ligaments that make up the elbow joint can develop issues. Ligament sprains can occur as a result of trauma or overuse.

  • Osteochondritis dissecans

Small chunks of cartilage and bone get dislodged in the elbow joint, causing osteochondritis dissecans, commonly known as Panner’s disease. Young men are more likely to get it as a result of an elbow injury sustained during athletics.

Common Treatments For Elbow Pain

Most elbow pain responds fast to physiotherapy with correct assessment and early treatment, allowing you to resume pain-free and normal activities of daily living quickly. Diagnostic tests such as X-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs, and CT scans may be required in some cases. Fractures, dislocations, and certain serious or chronic injuries may require surgical intervention or advice. Most cases advance physical modalities such as Tecar Radio Frequency, shockwave, laser and Super induction therapy along with exercise. In the video below you can see how we are using Tecar therapy with exercises available at both of our clinics in Toronto (Scarborough) and Vaughan (Woodbridge).
