Simply Align App
After months of work and great deal of time and money spent we are proud to have our Simply Align App on the apple’s app store. This is a free app. Available only for iOS 10 or higher on Apple iPhone and iPad. Download it, go to options and if you are going to be on your phone for a extended time press start. If you keep the phone perfectly vertical and at eye level there would be no alerts. However if you tilt the phone back a bit it will alert you to fix your posture. Your neck usually tilts with the phone. After 20 min it will remind and instruct you to do your neck stretched. You can not escape and fast forward. This is something I have been telling patients for 15 years. To put a timer on your computer to do your stretches every 20 min. I am not an optometrist but I have added the warning of “keep the phone at eye level and arms length away”. During the stretches it is recommend to do 20 20 meaning look 20 feet away for 20 seconds to reduce eye strain. Everything is well thought out on this app. You just need to shut it off once you are done. Use it for a few days and you will see it changes your habit of holding the phone down. IT IS GREAT FOR KIDS. It has a log where you can check how bad was your posture and where. So technically you can check up on your kids posture after. Download Simply Align App here.

Why Use Simply Align
This app was designed by a Chiropractor-Physiotherapist and a programmer. Smart phone usage has become very prevalent in the recent years across all ages. Unfortunately many users hold the phone tilted too far causing Forward Head Posture (FHP).
In a recent study neck muscle fatigue has been shown with FHP while holding the smart phone tilted in a horizontal position (Jung-Hyun Choi et al., 2016). Another study has shown that using your smart phone in a forward head posture (looking down) can start to cause neck muscle fatigue and pain within only 10 minutes and significant muscle fatigue within 20 minutes (Seong-Yeol Kim & Sung-Ja Koo, 2016). Yet in two other recent studies bad posture while using you phone has caused respiratory dysfunction in adults and temporomandibular (jaw) pain in smart phone-addicted teenagers. (Kyung Woo Kang et al, and In-Kyung Kee et al., 2016). Older studies have already correlated osteoarthritis of neck to muscle fatigue (Gogia and Sabbahi, 1994). Increase poundage of pressure on your spine as you look down on your phone has also been stablished (Hansraj, K., 2014). In his study, Hansraj calculated that at zero degrees of tilt, the resting pressure is equal to the weight of the person’s head (10 to 12 lbs). However at 15 degrees of tilt, the pressure increases to 27 lbs, at 30 degrees the pressure is at 40 pounds; at 45 degrees, 49 pounds; and at 60 degrees your head adds roughly 60 pounds of force to your spine.
Therefore it is very important to use your smart devices in a proper manner. If you notice that your phone is tilted too far or you experience neck pain while or after using you phone this app can help. This app will remind you “Hey fix your posture!” if your devise is tilted too far back so you can adjust your posture and built a lasting habit.
